About Federation University Australia

At Federation University, the desire to transform lives and enhance communities informs everything we do. From research that improves people’s lives right around the world, to supporting or students to succeed at their studies and in life – we make a difference.

With campuses in Ballarat, Berwick, Brisbane, Gippsland and the Wimmera, we became Federation University in 2014 – a new entity bringing together almost 150 years of history from our predecessor institutions.

As a young university, we have the energy of youth combined with the knowledge and experience that comes from our history as one of the oldest universities in Australia, dating back to 1870.

Federation University Australia

We are a diverse community with over 24,000 domestic and international students and 110,000 alumni across Australia and the world. We are creating a Federation of independent thinkers, of like-minded individuals who are determined to make their mark.

Why are you involved as a partner in the Growing Southern Gippsland project?

Federation University has been involved with the Growing Southern Gippsland project since its initial concept development. We have supported the scientific aspects of the project, including soil testing, water, climate, biodiversity and biosecurity with presentations at field days, field interviews, field tests and material for the web portal.

The web portal has been developed by the Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI) at Federation University. CeRDI is a global leader in data interoperability and has developed many award-winning web-based spatial information and knowledge portals which provide public access to data sets that are often hidden from view.

What are your hopes for the project upon project completion and the future?

That the Growing Southern Gippsland web portal is very well utilised and seen as the ‘go to” place for resources about positive agricultural practices in a changing climate. Also that the project facilitates the development of a community of practice around positive and sustainable landuse practices. Our vision is to see this project extend to Growing Gippsland…Growing Victoria…and beyond!
